On behalf of the Districts 4240 and 4250 we would like to welcome you to the 26th Uniendo America Project Fair, to be held at the Hotel Wyndham San Jose Herradura located in San Jose, Costa Rica, from January 24th to 27th, 2019.
Costa Rica is a country located in Central America that is ranked as one of the most visited international destinations. One of Costa Rica’s main sources of income is tourism. Costa Rica is a democratic and peaceful country and it has not had an army since the year 1949.
Although the country is small, and it covers only 0.03 percent of the surface of the globe, it proudly shelters 5 percent of the existing biodiversity in the entire world. Twenty six percent of the country is composed of conservation and natural protected territory.
The Wyndham San José Herradura Hotel and Convention Center is located just 15 minutes from downtown San José and three miles from the SJO airport. Nestled amongst lush gardens and tropical landscaping in an exclusive residential area, this ecofriendly property is an ideal setting for the Uniendo America Project Fair 2019. The hotel also has four delightful international restaurants, including the first Hard Rock Café in Costa Rica.
Project fairs are regional events hosted by Rotary districts to encourage international friendship and collaboration. Fairs give Rotary clubs a chance to showcase their service efforts to potential global partners, and they give international visitors the chance to find a project that meets their club’s goals. Fairs typically run two to three days and may include site visits to service projects as well as opportunities to experience the local culture. These activities help visitors learn about the community and build long-lasting relationships with their international hosts.
The phrase “Uniendo America” means “Uniting America”. The Uniendo America Project Fair takes place annually and rotates between various Central American countries. The purpose of the Fair is to encourage North American and Canadian Rotary clubs to support, financially and in other ways, projects presented by Central American Rotary clubs. Projects must be presented and supported by a Rotary club and can receive support either in Club-to-Club or Global Grant formats. The latter involves making a joint application to the Rotary International Foundation for additional funding under carefully drawn rules.
